The Buturi Makomgoro Project is the construction of a new school in a remote village in Tanzania, Africa.
ARA Architecture were approached in 2010 and asked if they would be involved in the design and assisting in the construction of a new school for the village. We are proud to say that not only have we designed a new passive modular construction that protects against the heat, wind and rain. The school has been constructed with natural materials, including mud bricks, that are either found or made within the village. During the site visit, an assessment of the orientation, wind impact from the valley, sun orientation and issues such as insects, passive ventilation and proximity was undertaken.
ARA Architecture remain involved with this project and are currently arranging to revisit the village within the next 12 months.
